Hum an idea, get a finished song.
Need a hand? Email cantor.dylan@gmail.com and we will get back to you.
Record or hum a musical idea, play a melody on the built-in keyboard, or upload something you already have. Add a few lines of lyrics — or let the app draft them. HearMe builds the rest of the song around your idea: drums, bass, harmony and vocals. When it’s done you can listen to it and explore it as an interactive visualisation.
How long does a song take to generate? Usually two to five minutes. Songs are generated on a university research server, so the wait depends on how busy it is. You’ll see your place in the queue while you wait.
What do I need before I can generate? At least one musical input — a recording, an uploaded file, or a melody you played — and some lyrics. The app will tell you which piece is still missing.
Nothing happens when I tap Generate. Check your internet connection. Generation needs to reach our server, so it does not work offline.
Can I use HearMe without an account? You can record, play melodies and write lyrics as a guest. You’ll be asked to sign up when you generate your first song, so that we have somewhere to keep it.
My recording sounds quiet or clipped. Hold the phone about a hand’s width from your mouth, and avoid covering the microphone at the bottom edge. It does not need to be a perfect take — the app is listening for the idea, not the performance.
How do I share a song with a friend? Add them under Friends, then share a song from your library. You can share it listen-only, or let them open your inputs and build their own version.
How do I delete my account? Profile → Delete Account. This permanently removes your songs, audio, friendships and profile. It cannot be undone.
How do I report something objectionable? Email cantor.dylan@gmail.com with details of the song or user and we will review it and take it down if appropriate.
